Norbert, Beloved Therapy Dog and Social Media Star, Dies at 15

The three-pound mixed-breed dog brought joy to millions through his therapy work and online presence before passing peacefully at home.

Norbert, a certified therapy dog known for his droopy tongue and gentle demeanor, passed away at 15 on Sunday, January 26, 2025.
His owner, Julie Steines, shared that Norbert died peacefully in her arms after being hospitalized earlier in the week for elevated kidney markers.
Adopted as a puppy in 2009, Norbert spent 13 years providing comfort to patients, including at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where he was the tiniest therapy dog in their program.
Norbert gained an international following with over 820,000 Instagram followers and appearances on shows like Today and Good Morning America.
In addition to his therapy work, Norbert inspired a series of children’s books and philanthropic efforts, including donating over 4,500 plush toys to children in need.
