Overview

  • The defamation case stems from a November 2000 press release in which Patkar accused V.K. Saxena of financial misconduct, leading to a complaint filed in January 2001.
  • In July 2024, a magistrate court sentenced Patkar to five months in jail and a ₹10 lakh fine; this was later modified by a sessions court to probation with conditions on April 8, 2025.
  • The sessions court required Patkar to pay ₹1 lakh compensation and submit a ₹25,000 probation bond by April 23, 2025, which she failed to do.
  • On April 22, 2025, the Delhi High Court declined to delay the execution of the sessions court’s probation order, advising Patkar to comply with the trial court's directives.
  • The sessions court issued the non-bailable warrant on April 23, 2025, and warned it may alter Patkar's probation if compliance is not met by the next hearing on May 3.
