Nomura Reenters U.S. CMBS With Barclays Veterans Leading New CRE Platform

The move restores a business Nomura exited 27 years ago that was once led by Ethan Penner.

Overview

  • Nomura announced a U.S. commercial real estate lending platform and the relaunch of its CMBS arm on Sept. 3 after a decades-long absence.
  • Larry Kravetz was named head of U.S. commercial real estate and CMBS, with Frank Gilhool to lead U.S. CRE warehouse financing.
  • The firm said it is unifying origination, financing, structuring and distribution under one platform to deliver differentiated solutions, according to Gordon Sweely.
  • Additional hires from Barclays include Andy DiPietro, Mike Fedorochko, Luke Power, Adam Scotto and Pete Taylor.
  • Kravetz and Gilhool are recognized industry leaders, with their Barclays team credited for leading or co-leading 75% of single-asset, single-borrower data center CMBS since 2021, and Barclays ranked eighth in 2024 U.S. CMBS originations with $8 billion, per Green Street.
