Noida Police Arrest Four in Currency Trader’s Murder

The suspects lured Ompal Bhati to a rented flat under the pretext of exchanging Canadian dollars before fatally robbing him.

  • On June 14, Noida Police arrested Mukul Sharma, Akash Upadhyay, Ajay Sharma and Aryan Yadav in connection with the June 11 killing of money changer Ompal Bhati.
  • During a routine check near Elevated Road in Sector 54, Sharma and Upadhyay opened fire on officers and were wounded in the return fire that led to their capture.
  • Investigators say Mukul and Akash carried out the shooting at a rented flat in Sector 12 as part of a conspiracy hatched by Ajay Sharma while Aryan Yadav provided refuge afterward.
  • Authorities recovered Rs 10.3 lakh in Indian and foreign currencies, two pistols with ammunition, a motorcycle and mobile phones from the accused.
  • Police noted all four suspects had prior criminal records in Noida and Ghaziabad under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.
