NOFV Bans Chemie Leipzig’s Weigel for Five Matches, Fines Aliji After Pitch Invasion

The club plans to appeal Weigel’s punishment, with separate proceedings against both teams still pending.

Overview

  • Valon Aliji received a two-match suspension and a €750 fine, a penalty already served due to an earlier precautionary ban.
  • Defender Julian Weigel was suspended for five competitive matches, which Chemie intends to challenge after the written verdict is issued.
  • Presiding judge Steffen Tänzer cited Weigel taking several metres of run-up before striking as a key factor in the harsher ruling.
  • The sanctions follow a post-match pitch invasion in Halle during heavy pyrotechnics, where HFC supporters confronted Chemie players and Aliji and Weigel said they acted in self-defence.
  • The NOFV has opened disciplinary cases against the clubs with possible fines, games behind closed doors or point deductions, and HFC has accepted a separate ban for Fabrice Hartmann for checking Tim Bunge.
