- NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center has a G2 (moderate) watch in effect for Aug. 8 and a G1 (minor) watch for Aug. 9 with Kp index forecasts up to 6.
- Auroras could first appear as early as 11 p.m. ET on Aug. 7, with the strongest activity expected between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. ET on Aug. 8.
- Forecasts indicate the northern lights may be visible across 16 to 18 northern U.S. states, from Washington and Montana through New York and Illinois.
- A bright waxing Sturgeon moon coupled with local cloud cover may hamper visibility of fainter auroras toward the southern edge of the view line.
- Minor to moderate geomagnetic storms could produce manageable disruptions to satellite operations, communications systems and power grids.
