Overview
- Forecasters expect aurora visibility Friday night into Saturday across northern Canada and Alaska, with a southward reach into roughly 14 to 15 U.S. states as far as northern Iowa.
- NOAA lists viewing chances for parts of Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine.
- In Canada, the view line includes Victoria, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Moncton and Charlottetown, with stronger displays projected for areas such as Prince George, Calgary, Edmonton, Jasper, Regina, Saskatoon and Winnipeg.
- Best viewing is typically between about 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. local time from a dark, north-facing, elevated spot, and bright auroras can be visible up to about 1,000 kilometers away on the northern horizon.
- NOAA’s three-day outlook maintains aurora chances through Saturday night and into early Sunday, and agencies say elevated solar activity is likely to persist into early 2026.
