No Big 12 Fine for BYU Field Storm as Crumbl CEO Redirects $50,000 to NIL and Wipes Lunch Debt

BYU was left off the league’s weekly sanctions after documented safety procedures at LaVell Edwards Stadium.

Overview

  • Jason McGowan, the Crumbl CEO who offered to cover a presumed $50,000 fine after BYU’s win over Utah, said the funds will now go to Cougar players through NIL deals.
  • The Big 12’s latest disciplinary notice did not list BYU for the Oct. 18 field storm, while Arizona State was fined for a separate incident.
  • McGowan paid the Salt Lake City School District’s reported $60,685 in student lunch debt during a visit to the district office on Wednesday.
  • The Provo School District confirmed he also cleared its lunch debt, which a spokesperson said totaled more than $30,000.
  • BYU broadcaster Greg Wrubell said the school avoided sanctioning because numerous crowd-safety procedures were followed at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
