No. 5 Marquette began their NCAA basketball season with a hefty victory over Northern Illinois, securing a final score of 92-70.
Marquette’s Kam Jones was in excellent form, scoring 20 points overall, including 3 out of 3 from 3-point range in the first four minutes.
Tyler Kolek, last season's Big East Player of the Year, delivered a solid performance with 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Oso Ighodaro and Chase Ross contributed 13 and 12 points respectively.
Despite trailing by 25 points with just under 16 minutes left, Northern Illinois managed to cut Marquette's lead to 65-51 with 12:55 remaining, thanks in part to a three-point play by Zion Russell.
