Terrence Shannon Jr. of Illinois scored 14 points in the first half and had a career-high five blocks, limiting Colgate's top scorer, Braeden Smith, to a season-low two points.
Jeff Woodward led Colgate with a season-high 14 points, while Keegan Records was held to nine points.
Despite trailing by 22 points with 13 minutes to go, Colgate managed to get as close as nine points.
This was Illinois' first home game at the State Farm Center in 23 days, and they now stand at 8-2.
