Overview

  • In Fredericksburg, Willits went 3-for-4 with a walk, one RBI, one stolen base and a run in a 10-6 win over Fayetteville.
  • Batting seventh and starting at shortstop, he showed both instincts and risk on the bases, sneaking into second on a mishandled throw and later getting thrown out trying to stretch a single.
  • He described the debut as a good first step and emphasized the team’s win, crediting development coach Luis Ordaz for baserunning cues.
  • Facing right-handed pitching, he hit exclusively left-handed but said he will keep taking right-handed batting practice to maintain his switch-hitting.
  • The son of former big leaguer Reggie Willits reported from the club’s West Palm Beach complex and will continue his pro development with Single-A Fredericksburg.
