NMSU Breaks Ground on $15 Million Soundstage Complex in Las Cruces

The project advances NMSU’s Creative Campus plan by pairing academic programs with a privately run facility offering paid student internships.

Overview

  • The 36,400-square-foot facility at Arrowhead Research Park will feature a 20,000-square-foot soundstage along with a mill and costume shop.
  • Construction began Sept. 30 and is slated to finish by late 2026, with first productions expected in early 2027.
  • Upon completion, NMSU will lease the complex to a private operator responsible for operations and maintenance.
  • The studio is intended to provide paid internships and create career pathways for students from NMSU and Doña Ana Community College.
  • The Board of Regents approved the project in June with the New Mexico Economic Development Department and Arrowhead Center, and a faculty member said a production company is expected to seek a 10-year lease to produce 8 to 10 films annually.
