Overview
- At its 67th Executive Committee meeting, the National Mission for Clean Ganga cleared a package that pivots to AI-enabled planning, high-resolution datasets and real-time modeling for river restoration.
- A ₹361.86 crore project to clean Siliguri’s Mahananda River was approved with 25 interception and diversion structures, two STPs of 27 MLD and 22 MLD, lifting stations and extensive conveyance, to be executed via a hybrid annuity PPP model.
- To bolster Delhi’s Yamuna, the EC okayed conveyance of treated effluent from the Coronation Pillar STP, including tapping the Jahangirpuri drain and building pumping stations, rising mains, RCC channels and truss bridges for crossings.
- The research slate includes a ₹3.98 crore National Institute of Hydrology study on glacier retreat and melt-runoff in the Upper Ganga, a 1,100 km SONAR bathymetric survey from Bijnor to Ballia, a ₹3.31 crore Digital Twin and a ₹2.62 crore historic geospatial database.
- Groundwater security will be targeted through a ₹242.56 lakh managed aquifer recharge project between Kaushambi and Kanpur, while a ₹39.37 lakh ‘Youth for Ganga, Youth for Yamuna’ drive will engage over 2.5 lakh students across at least 200 Delhi-NCR schools as implementation planning now proceeds.
