Overview
- All government and private hospitals must maintain uninterrupted stocks of anti‑rabies vaccine and rabies immunoglobulin at all times, the NMC said in its December 29 notice.
- All institutions — including schools, hostels, hospitals, sports venues, bus depots and railway stations — must identify vulnerabilities within two weeks and complete fencing, boundary walls or gates within eight weeks.
- Each campus must appoint a nodal officer, display contact details, liaise with municipal authorities, and conduct quarterly inspections to ensure no dog habitats exist on or near the premises.
- Any stray dog found inside an institution must be removed for sterilization and vaccination and must not be released back to the same location.
- Chief secretaries of states and UTs, the NHAI and the Union Health Ministry must file compliance affidavits within eight weeks, as officials flag cost and availability hurdles for RIG outside tertiary hospitals.
