Overview
- The NMC’s latest directive requires every patient admitted to a teaching hospital to be registered with an Ayushman Bharat Health Account ID.
- Teaching faculty and senior residents must sign off on all inpatient entries and department heads must authenticate diagnostic reports.
- From the 2025–26 academic year onward, only admissions verified with the digital health ID will contribute to the mandatory 75 percent bed-occupancy calculation.
- The commission will conduct verification audits and impose sanctions on institutions and staff for any falsified patient records, though care cannot be withheld for lack of an ID.
- The ABHA ID, a 14-digit unique identifier under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, consolidates medical history and can be created easily using an Aadhaar card.
