Overview

• The commission identified 34 colleges as deficient in 2024-25 and another 37 in 2025-26 for falling short of mandated educational and clinical standards.
• Both government and private institutions received show-cause notices under the National Medical Commission’s periodic compliance reviews.
• Colleges flagged in 2024-25 were fined, while those reviewed in 2025-26 were granted only conditional approval for their MBBS seat renewals.
• On May 19 the Under Graduate Medical Education Board issued public alerts against unapproved institutions including Sanjiban Hospital and Medical College for misleading admissions.
• The NMC remains in active monitoring mode and has warned that stricter sanctions will follow if colleges do not rectify their deficiencies.
