NJ Police Lieutenant Charged with Stealing Drugs from Evidence Room

Accused of returning drugs in different condition and avoiding federal reporting requirements

New Jersey police lieutenant Kevin T. Matthew has been charged with stealing cocaine and fentanyl from an evidence room.
Matthew allegedly removed the drugs from the evidence room and returned them in a substantially different condition.
He is also accused of making a series of cash deposits at various banks to avoid federal reporting requirements for transactions over $10,000.
Matthew was allegedly caught on camera carrying bags large enough to contain the narcotics he had signed out.
Matthew's attorney, Charles Sciarra, has insisted on his client's innocence.
