NIU Student Released Pre-Trial After Arrest on Child Pornography Charges

Pre-trial release follows his June arrest on over 20 child pornography counts with a July 17 court date.

Overview

  • In April the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children tipped off Batavia police about Michael B. Erickson.
  • Batavia police and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office obtained a search warrant in May and found thousands of suspected child sexual abuse images on his NIU dorm electronics.
  • Erickson was arrested on June 2 near Bayfield Drive in DeKalb and charged with production, dissemination and possession of child pornography.
  • A judge granted him pre-trial release and he is scheduled to appear in DeKalb County court on July 17.
  • Northern Illinois University confirmed it removed Erickson from campus housing upon learning of the charges.
