Nitish Kumar Sworn In for Record 10th Term as Bihar Chief Minister

Portfolio assignments and a planned expansion will follow as the NDA leverages its 202-seat mandate.

  • At Patna’s Gandhi Maidan, Governor Arif Mohammed Khan administered the oath in a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and several NDA chief ministers.
  • Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha of the BJP were retained as deputy chief ministers as the new NDA ministry took office.
  • A total of 26 ministers were sworn in alongside the chief minister, including 14 from the BJP, eight from the JD(U), two from the LJP(RV) and one each from HAM(S) and the RLM.
  • Nine cabinet berths remain vacant for a later expansion and portfolios are to be announced next, with the new assembly session scheduled to begin on November 26.
  • The NDA won 202 of 243 seats in the election (BJP 89, JD(U) 85, LJP(RV) 19, HAM-S 5, RLM 4), and the RLM’s Deepak Prakash entered the cabinet despite not yet being a legislator, requiring entry to a House within six months.
