Nitish Kumar Inaugurates Six-Lane Ganga Bridge Linking Patna to North Bihar

Funded partly by the Asian Development Bank, the 19.76km structure will slash travel times to underpin growth across north Bihar.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the Kacchi Dargah-Bidupur six-lane Ganga Bridge on June 23, 2025, connecting Kacchi Dargah in Patna with Bidupur in Vaishali district.
  • The greenfield link spans 19.76km with extra-dosed cable-stayed spans and cost Rs 4,988 crore to build.
  • Built by the Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited, the bridge took nearly nine years to complete after construction began in 2016.
  • It offers an uninterrupted route from Patna to the flood-prone Raghopur Diara region, maintaining connectivity through the monsoon season.
  • Officials project relief for the ageing Mahatma Gandhi Setu, improved emergency medical access to Patna hospitals and a boost to agriculture, trade and industry.
