Nitish Kumar Inaugurates Patna Metro’s First Stretch Today, Public Rides Start Tuesday

The rollout marks Patna’s entry to India’s metro map, with services running initially on a short Blue Line section.

Overview

  • At 11 am, the chief minister will flag off the inaugural run from the ISBT depot on a 4.3 km link connecting Patliputra ISBT, Zero Mile and Bhoothnath.
  • Public services begin October 7 from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm with trains roughly every 20 minutes and fares set between Rs 15 and Rs 30.
  • The opening makes Patna the 24th Indian city with an operational metro rail system.
  • Each three-coach train can carry about 900 passengers and features Madhubani-inspired designs, charging points, 360-degree CCTV and emergency communication to the driver.
  • The ceremony also features a foundation stone for a 9.35 km Bailey Road underground tunnel on Corridor-1 costing Rs 2,565.80 crore, with the wider project guided by PMRCL, DMRC and L&T and financed in part by JICA.
