Nissan Launches Recall of Nearly 444,000 Vehicles Over Engine Bearing Flaws

Inspections will begin on July 15 with free engine repairs following discovery of metal debris in Nissan’s VC-Turbo engines.

  • Nissan filed the recall with the NHTSA on July 2 under number 25V437, covering 443,899 vehicles including the 2019–2020 Altima, 2021–2024 Rogue, 2019–2022 Infiniti QX50 and 2022 Infiniti QX55.
  • The affected models use 1.5-liter three-cylinder or 2.0-liter four-cylinder variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines whose bearings may have manufacturing defects leading to engine failure and elevated crash risk.
  • Dealers will inspect engine oil pans for metal debris free of charge and will repair or replace affected engines at no cost to owners.
  • If no debris is detected, vehicles with 1.5-liter VC-Turbo engines will receive new oil pan gaskets, fresh engine oil and a control module reprogram, while 2.0-liter models will undergo an engine oil replacement.
  • Dealerships will be notified on July 15 and owners will receive mailings beginning August 25 about how to schedule inspections and repairs.
