Overview
- Nikkei business daily cited an unidentified source saying Nissan is exploring a partnership with Taiwan’s Foxconn to build electric vehicles at its Oppama plant.
- Under the proposal, idle assembly lines would produce Foxconn-branded EVs and keep supplier networks active at the Japanese facility.
- Oppama, which employs roughly 3,900 workers, was slated for consolidation under Nissan’s Re:Nissan plan announced in May.
- Nissan issued a statement that the report was not based on company-released information and Foxconn has not responded to requests for comment.
- The talks follow Foxconn’s May memorandum of understanding with a Mitsubishi Motors subsidiary to supply electric vehicle models.
