Overview
- Nissan confirmed the phased shutdown of its CIVAC plant in Morelos and will complete transfer of all vehicle assembly to its Aguascalientes complex by the end of its fiscal year in March 2026.
- The consolidation is part of the global Re:Nissan restructuring, which aims to cut non-China capacity from 3.5 million to 2.5 million units and reduce the global plant count from 17 to 10.
- Local authorities in Morelos have announced programs for worker support, including retraining, job placement and relocation assistance for roughly 3,500 direct employees.
- The Asociación Mexicana de la Industria Automotriz projects that the consolidation will not disrupt Nissan’s Mexican production volumes or its auto parts supply chain.
- Nissan has maintained that its commercial operations, customer service and product quality in Mexico will continue unaffected throughout and after the transition.
