Nioh 3's Hell Rising DLC Set for August 19

The expansion adds new weapons, a mega-hard difficulty plus customizable repeatable battles to boost challenge and replay value.

Overview

  • Team NINJA and Koei Tecmo announced on Tuesday that Hell Rising will launch on August 19 for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and that the DLC is included in the game's Season Pass alongside a second expansion called Bloody Insurrection.
  • Hell Rising sends protagonist Takechiyo to a ruined future Edo dated 1651 where the Crucible has overtaken the city and new story beats introduce foes such as the one-eyed swordsman Yagyu Jubei and a Spanish envoy named Rodrigo.
  • The DLC adds new weapon archetypes including the Hoko & Shield and Ninja Hoko & Shield, while the First Look trailer also teases a throwable rotating blade and a firearm shown in the base game.
  • A new top-tier difficulty called The Enlightened One’s Journey will exceed the existing Shogun’s Journey, require beating that mode to unlock it, and raise level caps, equipment strength and Soul Core rewards.
  • The Hundred Demon Realms Picture Scrolls feature lets players create and replay highly customizable solo or multiplayer battles with unique rules and rewards, a set of additions intended to restore challenge and extend Nioh 3’s larger open-area design.
