The partnership aims to design standards for swappable batteries, build and share battery swapping networks, and set up a venture focused on battery investments.
Nio currently operates over 2,100 battery swap stations across mainland China, which allow car owners to quickly exchange a spent battery pack for a fully charged one.
Changan Automobile, a partner of Ford Motor and Mazda Motor, has been aggressively developing its EV business and plans to set up a plant in Thailand.
The partnership is expected to help Nio improve profitability as it faces growing competition and aims to reduce costs.
