Ninth Steel Bridge Completed on Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train Line With 200-Meter NH-48 Crossing

Engineers slid the second 100-meter segment into place near Nadiad to keep NH-48 traffic flowing.

Overview

  • The launch of the second 100-meter span completes a twin-span bridge over NH-48 near Nadiad, marking Gujarat’s ninth finished steel bridge on the corridor.
  • The 200-meter structure weighs about 2,884 metric tonnes and measures 14.6 meters in height and 14.3 meters in width, with a design life of 100 years.
  • The spans were fabricated at Salasar near Hapur in Uttar Pradesh and assembled on temporary trestles 14.9 meters above ground before installation.
  • The segment was moved using an automated sliding system supported by two semi-automatic jacks rated at 250 tons each, with the operation scheduled to minimize disruption.
  • The bridge incorporates roughly 1,14,172 Tor-Shear Type High Strength bolts with C5 protective painting and elastomeric bearings, as NHSRCL notes 28 steel bridges are planned across the 508 km route (17 in Gujarat, 11 in Maharashtra).
