Nintendo to End Switch eShop and Online Services in China by 2026

Nintendo and Tencent will shut down the Chinese Nintendo Switch eShop on March 31, 2026, halting sales of digital games and software.
All online code redemptions, downloads, and other network-related services will cease on May 15, 2026.
To compensate users, up to four free games can be redeemed by verified Chinese Switch owners via WeChat between November 27, 2024, and March 31, 2026.
The Chinese Nintendo Switch will remain available for purchase, with users still able to play games using physical game cartridges.
Neither Nintendo nor Tencent provided a reason for the shutdown, though speculation links it to market preferences for international consoles or potential new hardware developments.
