Nintendo Switch Sales Exceed 132 Million Units Boosted by Zelda and Mario Titles; Firm Raises Annual Profit Forecast

Nintendo's latest console, the Switch, has surpassed sales of 132 million units with the help of new titles like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Pikmin 4, inching closer to the company's best-selling hardware, the Nintendo DS, at 154.02 million units sold.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie, released in April 2023, significantly boosted sales of Mario related titles and contributed to the overall growth of Nintendo software sales.
With 19.5 million units sold, Tears of the Kingdom became the best-selling game in the Zelda franchise, and Pikmin 4, with 2.61 million units sold, has become the best-selling game in the Pikmin series.
Continued support of the Switch console is expected, despite rumors of a new-gen console from Nintendo on the horizon. The company sees potential for the Switch to reach the sales numbers of the Nintendo DS.
Nintendo recorded a 21.2% year-on-year increase in sales for the first half of its 2023 fiscal year, propelled by the success of games like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and the Super Mario Bros. Movie. This resulted in raising its profit forecast for the current financial year to approximately $2.8 billion.
