Overview

  • Local transfer requires both the original Switch and Switch2 to be signed into the same Nintendo Account, charged, connected to the same Wi-Fi and placed near each other.
  • Server-based transfers let users upload their data before trading in or disposing of the old console, with backups available for up to one year.
  • The process moves everything from user profiles and digital games to save files, screenshots, videos and parental controls in a single operation.
  • Local transfers typically complete in about 30 minutes after initiating the ‘Transfer Your User Data’ command on each device.
  • Once the transfer finishes, the old Switch is wiped of saved data and the new console downloads the transferred library during setup.
