Nintendo Sets Nov. 20 Launch for Kirby Air Riders on Switch 2 After 45-Minute Sakurai Deep-Dive

Sakurai positioned the revival as a mode-driven racer built around City Trial rather than traditional races.

Overview

  • Sakurai opened the Direct by saying it is "basically Mario Kart," then outlined distinct mechanics, characters, machines and modes.
  • Kirby Air Riders launches Nov. 20, 2025 as a Switch 2 exclusive; an eShop listing posted after the show lists a $70 price and a 25GB download.
  • Air Ride races support up to six players, while City Trial takes place on the floating island Skyah with up to eight locally and 16 online.
  • The project is directed by Sakurai and co-developed with Sora Ltd. and Bandai Namco, following requests from Nintendo’s Shinya Takahashi and HAL’s Satoshi Mitsuhara.
  • Nintendo confirmed playable demos at Gamescom this week and at PAX West in Seattle from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1.
