Nintendo Raises Legacy Switch Prices in U.S. as Switch 2 Stays at Launch Cost

Elevated U.S. import duties have forced price increases on first-generation hardware to steer customers toward the new Switch 2 platform

Overview

  • On August 3, Nintendo boosted U.S. prices for the original Switch, Switch Lite and Switch OLED by roughly 13–15% in response to “market conditions.”
  • Select accessories and amiibo also saw price hikes after the administration imposed a 20% tariff on Vietnamese imports.
  • The Switch 2 console, its physical and digital games and Nintendo Switch Online memberships remain at their $449.99 launch price.
  • Nintendo reports over six million Switch 2 units sold worldwide since its June 5 debut and reaffirmed a target of 15 million by March 2026.
  • The company cautioned that further price adjustments across its lineup could become necessary if cost pressures persist.
