Overview

  • Nintendo’s updated terms of service, implemented in May, grant the company authority to permanently disable consoles that violate rules against unauthorized hardware and software.
  • Within days of Switch2’s June 5 release, users reported console-level bans after using the MIG Flash cartridge, even when playing backups of owned games.
  • Affected systems show error code 2124-4508 and lose access to online services including the eShop, multiplayer, updates and cloud saves.
  • Nintendo accounts linked to banned consoles remain active and can be used on other devices without restriction.
  • Attempting a factory reset on a banned Switch2 does not restore online functionality, effectively bricking the console for network play.
