Overview
- Nintendo released version 4.0.1 for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, as a minor maintenance patch focused on parity and stability across Switch and Switch 2 hardware.
- The update fixes an issue that caused the number of obstacles or Item Boxes to increase for players on Nintendo Switch 2 during Online Play and Wireless Play.
- Patch 4.0.1 resolves a bug that prevented selecting a user profile when two players join for Online Play or Wireless Play.
- The patch restores missing Star Bits on the Wii Rainbow Road track for Nintendo Switch 2 users and fixes an intermittent crash that could close the game under certain conditions.
- This maintenance follows the September v4.0.0 update that added Switch 2 display support, faster loading, 5–8 player multiplayer and CameraPlay, and it responds to community reports of platform inconsistencies while outlets monitor for any further issues.
