Overview
- Nintendo will publish two previously unreleased Virtual Boy titles, D-Hopper and Zero Racers, to the Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics app on August 4, 2026, and will add Super Mario Sunshine to the GameCube – Nintendo Classics app on Switch 2 on August 13, 2026.
- Super Mario Sunshine on Switch 2 will be offered through the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack as a straight emulation of the original GameCube release without visual enhancements.
- Playing Virtual Boy games on Switch or Switch 2 requires Nintendo’s Switch-compatible headset replica or the cardboard adapter so the titles display correctly and approximate the original hardware experience.
- Zero Racers is reported to have been completed in the 1990s but never released, and D-Hopper (originally Dragon Hopper) was cancelled after the Virtual Boy’s commercial failure; both are being published for the first time.
- The moves widen Nintendo’s archival offerings and could renew calls for remasters or wider access, while keeping GameCube library content exclusive to Switch 2 and behind the Expansion Pack subscription.
