Nine to Cut Up to 50 Roles in Streaming and Broadcast Overhaul

The company cites a weak advertising market during its consolidation of streaming with broadcast operations.

Overview

  • Staff in the Streaming and Broadcast division were informed on Monday, with consultation underway that includes wellbeing support and redeployment options.
  • The review targets duplication after bringing together Stan, Channel 9 and 9Now, with roles mostly affecting the news division and Stan, and also touching sport, marketing and creative teams.
  • Some new positions are being created, so the final number of departures may be lower than 50.
  • At its annual meeting, Nine outlined a further $10 million in cost reductions on top of $100 million planned across the 2026 and 2027 financial years due to tougher advertising conditions.
  • Board leadership shifted as chair Catherine West stepped down and independent director Peter Tonagh, a former Foxtel and News Corp chief executive, was appointed chair.
