Nine Memphis Jail Deputies Indicted in Death of Black Inmate Following Violent Altercation

Nine deputies at a Memphis jail have been indicted in connection with the death of Gershun Freeman, a Black inmate.
Video evidence showed deputies beating, kicking, and kneeling on Freeman during a confrontation in his cell.
Freeman was having a psychotic episode at the time and died of a heart attack while being restrained.
Two deputies were charged with second-degree murder, while the other seven face aggravated assault charges.
