Nine Killed in Two Holiday Highway Crashes in Paraná and São Paulo

Overview

• In Rolândia on PR-170 around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, a car returning from the beach collided head-on with a truck, killing six relatives from Florestópolis, including newborn twins.
• The victims were identified as Alexandre Cordeiro and Adriana da Silva Souza Cordeiro, their children Miguel and 10-month-old twins, and nephew Elano Gabriel de Oliveira, with the bodies held at the Londrina IML.
• The truck’s passenger, Fábio Sérgio Gomes, said he awoke at the moment of impact and was unhurt, while driver Rafael Beltrame was hospitalized in intensive care with severe injuries.
• On SP-280 (Castello Branco) in Avaré, three Sorocaba family members — João Araújo dos Santos, 70, Elizabete Bernardes Viana da Fonseca, 62, and Vanderlei — died after a rear-left tire blew out and the vehicle rolled, according to Artesp.
• Firefighters said the Avaré victims were trapped and a small fire was contained, the driver was uninjured, relatives traveling in a second car witnessed the crash, and the bodies were sent to the Itapetininga IML.
