Overview

  • State health authority LAGuS confirms nine pediatric cases across the districts of Vorpommern-Rügen and Vorpommern-Greifswald, with patients aged 1 to 14 and many identified as holidaymakers.
  • Five children have developed haemolytic–uraemic syndrome, and five are receiving intensive care, while six patients are hospitalized in facilities across several federal states.
  • Illnesses have been reported since after August 18, with symptoms including vomiting and watery to sometimes bloody diarrhea.
  • Authorities report no identified common exposure and say a risk to additional people cannot be excluded as checks of hygiene conditions and supply chains continue.
  • Reports citing NDR say at least two children required dialysis after kidney failure, and LAGuS notes 134 EHEC cases have been recorded in the state so far this year.
