Nine Caparisoned Elephants Welcomed at Mysuru Palace Ahead of Dasara Preparations

Traditional pujas at Jayamarthanda Gate set the stage for upcoming rehearsals on the palace procession route

  • On Sunday evening at the auspicious Ghodhooli lagna, nine caparisoned elephants led by tusker Abhimanyu were received at the Jayamarthanda Gate of Mysuru Palace despite light rain.
  • Priests conducted Dwarapalaka Puja, elephants’ Paada Pooje, Sankalpa, Chamaraseve and Mangalarathi during the ceremonial reception.
  • District minister H. C. Mahadevappa, Animal Husbandry minister Venkatesh, legislators T. S. Srivatsa and G. T. Devegowda, and Forest Department officials were among the dignitaries in attendance.
  • The animals will rest for a day or two before starting daily rehearsals along the palace-to-Bannimantap procession route.
  • Five more caparisoned elephants are set to join the group as final preparations accelerate for the Dasara festival scheduled September 22 to October 2.
