Overview

• Jonathan Friedman, 74, was struck around 7:30 a.m. on June 26 while walking on Beckwith Road near Neenah Avenue and was later pronounced dead at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.
• The vehicle involved was a tan or gold Chevrolet Equinox that was found abandoned about two blocks from the scene with its front emblem missing.
• Investigators say the driver parked on Normandy Avenue, walked to a nearby Walgreens, contacted a family member, and was later located at his father's home.
• A Cook County grand jury indicted William Barkho on July 30 on one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident involving death, and he pleaded not guilty on August 13.
• A judge allowed Barkho to remain free under conditions that include a driving ban, and his next court date is set for September 22 at the Skokie courthouse.
