Nikola Bilyk to Leave THW Kiel for HC Kriens-Luzern on Three-Year Deal

Kiel cites recent injuries in choosing not to extend the 29-year-old's contract.

Overview

  • Bilyk will depart the German champions at the end of the season and join HC Kriens-Luzern next summer on a three-year agreement.
  • THW Kiel managing director Viktor Szilagyi said persistent injuries prevented Bilyk from showing his level over longer stretches, leading to the non-renewal.
  • The Austrian back called the farewell regrettable but said he wanted a new experience and that Kriens-Luzern’s ambition and concept convinced him.
  • Bilyk has been at Kiel since 2016, playing 390 competitive matches with 1,133 goals and winning three Bundesliga titles, four DHB-Pokals and the 2020 Champions League.
  • The club said it informed him early to aid his planning, and noted he had recently taken on captaincy responsibilities.
