Niko Kovac Appointed Borussia Dortmund Head Coach

The former Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt manager takes over as Dortmund aims to recover from a challenging season.

Niko Kovac, 53, has signed a contract with Borussia Dortmund until June 2026, succeeding Nuri Sahin, who was dismissed after poor results.
Kovac brings significant Bundesliga experience, having previously managed Bayern Munich, Eintracht Frankfurt, Wolfsburg, and Monaco, with notable successes including a Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double with Bayern in 2018-19.
Dortmund is currently 11th in the Bundesliga, six points off the Champions League spots, and has struggled with defensive issues throughout the season.
Interim coach Mike Tullberg will lead the team for their match against Heidenheim on Saturday, with Kovac officially taking charge on Sunday, February 3.
Kovac's immediate tasks include stabilizing Dortmund's league performance, preparing for the Champions League playoff next month, and restoring the team's identity and cohesion.
