Nighttime Apartment Fire in Garching Injures Woman and Forces Evacuation

Overview

  • The blaze erupted around 2:20 a.m. in a first-floor unit on Hartweg, injuring a 60-year-old resident with burns and smoke inhalation before she was taken to a hospital.
  • Flames spread into the roof structure as crews opened the roof to reach smoldering hotspots and declared the fire out at about 6 a.m.
  • Police said two apartments were heavily damaged, with the estimated loss in the low six-figure range.
  • Roughly ten registered occupants were evacuated from the multi-family house, and the city arranged temporary accommodation in Unterschleißheim.
  • About 70 responders from the volunteer fire brigades of Garching, Hochbrück and Ismaning, the ABC unit and the district fire inspection were on scene, and the cause is under investigation.
