Niels Giffey Retires from German National Basketball Team

The seasoned player, after 118 games for Germany, announces his retirement following the Paris Olympics.

Niels Giffey, a key player for Bayern Munich, has officially retired from the German national basketball team.
His decision follows discussions with his wife after the 2024 Paris Olympics, where Germany narrowly missed a medal.
Giffey debuted for the national team in 2013 and was instrumental in winning bronze at the 2022 European Championship and gold at the 2023 World Championship in Manila.
He informed the new national coach, Álex Mumbrú, of his decision, stating it was final despite the coach's interest in having him continue.
The German team will play its first game under Mumbrú's leadership on November 22 in Sweden.
