• On June 12, around 95 permanent teaching and non-teaching staff were barred from entering NIEIT’s Koorgalli campus, leading them to stage a protest and seek police intervention.
• Management officials confirm NIEIT was formally closed this year with approvals from AICTE, VTU and the Karnataka government before leasing its infrastructure to NIE’s North Campus.
• All employees were offered a voluntary separation scheme with substantial financial packages and invited to apply for new positions at NIE.
• Those who declined the scheme were relieved from their duties with financial benefits and have filed a legal challenge against the merger and closure.
• The Karnataka High Court is scheduled to hear the case on June 16 to decide on the legality of the closure and staff retrenchments.
