Nicholas Rossi Convicted in Second Utah Rape Case From 2008

A long-delayed DNA test on a 2008 rape kit revived the Orem case, identifying him as the attacker.

Overview

  • A Utah County jury found Rossi guilty of first-degree felony rape for a 2008 assault in Orem after about five hours of deliberation.
  • He was convicted in a separate Salt Lake County case in August for a different 2008 rape, with sentencing set for Oct. 20.
  • Judge Derek Pullan scheduled sentencing in the Orem case for Nov. 4 and ordered a supplemental presentence report.
  • The Orem case was reopened when Utah’s backlog-clearing initiative tested the victim’s kit in 2018 and linked Rossi by DNA after the case was initially closed.
  • Rossi fled the U.S., lived under the alias Arthur Knight, denied his identity, was identified through DNA and tattoos, extradited from Scotland, and still faces additional cases in other states.
