Nice Shooting Linked to Drug Turf War Kills 2, Wounds 5 as Hunt for Gunmen Continues

Prosecutors have launched an organized-crime investigation citing Kalashnikov fire from a stolen car.

  • Gunmen opened fire from a Peugeot 3008 on the evening of October 3 in the Moulins district near a drug point of sale, killing two people and injuring five.
  • Investigators recovered 25 Kalashnikov-caliber 7.62 mm casings and five 9 mm casings, and the victims include minors with several having no apparent link to trafficking.
  • The deceased were born in 1966 and 2005, and authorities say the conditions of the five injured have stabilized with no current life-threatening prognoses.
  • A burned getaway vehicle matching the attackers’ car was found in Mougins; it had been stolen in Marseille and fitted with false plates, and no arrests have been announced.
  • Around 60 CRS officers and more than 100 total police personnel have been deployed to secure the area, and a medico-psychological support cell has been opened for residents.
