Nice Footballer Youcef Atal to Stand Trial for Inciting Hatred

Nice defender Youcef Atal is set to appear in court on December 18 on charges of 'inciting hatred on religious grounds' following a controversial social media post related to the Israel-Gaza war.
Atal was suspended by Nice and the French Football Association (LFP) last month over the post, which was widely condemned for being offensive towards Jewish people.
The Nice public prosecutor’s office launched a preliminary investigation into charges of glorifying terrorism and public provocation to hatred or violence because of a specific religion.
Atal has been placed under judicial supervision, banned from leaving the country except for reasons linked to his activity as a professional footballer, and required to pay a €80,000 bond within a fortnight.
Atal has apologized for the post, stating that he condemns all forms of violence and would never support a message of hate.
