Kurt and Monica Villani, both 53, from Grand Island, New York, were identified as the victims of the fatal car crash at the Rainbow Bridge border crossing between the United States and Canada.
The couple's Bentley sedan crashed into a border checkpoint structure, went airborne, and exploded into flames, killing them instantly and injuring a border patrol officer.
Initial fears of a potential terror attack were quelled when state and federal authorities found no connection to terrorism.
Investigators are considering the possibility of a mechanical failure or a medical incident suffered by the driver as potential causes of the crash.
The Villanis were reportedly on their way to a KISS concert in Toronto before the crash.
